What makes something a best practice? This isn't about the most intricate experience. It's about looking at the world from your consumer's point of view and delivering something that hits it right smack on the head. In the case of colleges, I'm treating the primary consumer as that prospective student athlete.
Cool?
Thus far we've seen how Bradley puts success in numbers (here) and how Illinois State elevates their gear (here). On to our final example...
Let's return to the Bradley Men's Basketball Page (below) and click into Strength and Conditioning.
Doing so takes us here. The imagery and video tour are fine. But it is in the details of this image that I want to turn your attention.
Look at those bullets. Stuck in between "Full Time Coach" and "Comprehensive schedule" is this nugget of pure gold:
"Average Player Gain of 15 lbs and 2-3 inches of Vertical Jump."What?
That is amazing. It shows exactly what they have done to make players get better. And it is very relevant to the sport. How amazing is this concept? I mean we not only will get you better, but here is what we've done on average. Wow.
How could this be better? Give this love. I mean, it is a recruiting weapon. Here's what we do to make players better. Here's how we improve your vertical jump. Here's how it's played out on the court? (Maybe that is in terms of rebounding, blocks, altered shots, etc) Finally, could they show how this resulted in an increase of players playing professionally (domestically or overseas)? This is that hidden gem that needs love, quickly.
