This blog is all about inspiration. And it's time to go even deeper. We're going to spend the next 3 days elevating best practices from the squads that make up the America East Conference. You can tune in on this blog, or you can follow along on Twitter -- I'm @pawlow34 or you can join in on our new Facebook page, here.
Let's go.
In checking out the Vermont Athletics website, here, I was drawn into their social media icons at the bottom of the page (shown below).
The one that you may not be used to seeing on these sites is neatly tucked into the 3-hole, like many great hitters in baseball. Flickr. With the power photography can deliver, I was intrigued and clicked in -- taking me to the Vermont Athletics Photostream -- shown below or by clicking here.
Now, look at the right hand side of the page for the recent albums and you'll see "Vermont in Photos."
Clicking into this page gives us a 29 image gallery - which is essentially a 29 image portfolio for the campus, the athletics programs, and this part of the country (which is gorgeous). See for yourself here.
Every image is laid out with a purpose. You get a feel for success on the court (or rink), and also what the campus stands for -- openness, academic strength, leadership, plus community and environmental responsibility. And, as you can see in the upper right-hand corner of the image below, every picture is one click away from being shared -- thus maximizing the power that is in front of each image.
Which brings me to what I see is the biggest strength of this style of communication. Elevate the right images. Use them to reinforce your brand. Enable them to be easily shared and expanded over time.
As you can see, there's serious potential in leveraging Flickr. It's powerful because it focuses you in on images and does it in a way where you can take those images away with you to your own email list, desktop wallpaper, Facebook page, or wherever you go.
Tune in tomorrow as we keep moving in the America East! And, don't forget, you can follow along on Twitter: I'm @pawlow34.
