NBA Best Practices: Phoenix Suns Let You Color Your Social Media Profile

How often do you change your Facebook or Twitter profile? Most of us don't do it all too often, drawing importance to the change when you do decide to switch things up. And, if you did this to support your favorite team, it'd make quite a statement -- that this isn't a team you kind of like.

Check out what the Phoenix Suns do.

Hit the Suns home page and hover over social media. You'll note the "Turn Yourself Orng" Callout, where we'll go next...

This takes you here, to your center to learn how to update your social image to reflect your crush on the Suns!

Clicking in will give you step by step instructions on how to change your Facebook profile, here, or your Twitter profile, here. Cool.

Even better, doing this triggers an automatic update to your network of friends. As you'll note in the image above, "When you support this cause your avatar will be overlaid with the Twibbon above and a support Tweet will be posted on your behalf saying: Support I heart the Suns!, add a #twibbon now! This will help draw attention (beyond the natural "XX has changed their profile picture" message in Facebook).

So how could this be better? I'd love to see more options. I heart Suns is good. But what if I could choose from options defined by the players? Let each guy on the squad define a statement for the team, and let fans hear/see/read the story of why that was chosen. This will both connect the branding while also connect you in an emotional way to the squad.

Come back tomorrow as we check out another best practice from the NBA. And as always, you can follow me on Twitter (I'm @pawlow34) or on Facebook (Digital Hoops Blast).

Thanks!

Andy
