Let's keep moving.
Thus far we've seen #12 Alabama, #11 Mississippi State, #10 Auburn, #9 LSU, and #8 Vanderbilt.
#7 Ole Miss
The Digital Scouting Report
Strengths: Solid Twitter job by the basketball program + nice video content = great foundation
Weaknesses: The basketball section needs an infusion of content from their coaches on this year's squad.
Full Scouting Report:
You'll notice the icons on the right hand side to connect with the Rebels. I'll zoom in here.
First, the Ole Miss Facebook page is here. They have a community of around 5500 fans and do a solid job of providing updates in a motivational way across all teams - guiding fans to check out posts, honors, and games for the Rebels Athletics teams. It's well done.
Clicking on Twitter takes you here, to this image that is very odd but somehow also very compelling. I found myself enthralled with it for some reason.
Ole Miss Now is the official Athletics Twitter home for 1100 followers. They cover all sports, much more factual than intimate in style.
Ole Miss Feed is a ticker of posts to the athletics site - with 238 followers it's also solid but factual.
Hoops Head Coach Andy Kennedy is up on Twitter here, with 915 followers. He hasn't been active since before the season, which is a shame as he did a fantastic job of being authentic, personal, and informative. I'm following him in the hope that he returns.
Clicking on the Blog button takes you to the Ole Miss blog, here. It's a pretty solid blog dedicated to giving you both quick soundbytes on all Rebels programs but also to share Ole Miss Sports content from the web. They are pretty active, and I was impressed with the level of Hoops content available.
All of this content (Facebook, Twitter, and Blog) is also accessible from the Fan Zone Menu, shown below.
Moving on to the Basketball section, here, gives you a powerful window with access to the latest video content via Rebel Vision.
Clicking on the Rebel Vision Tout takes you here, to a nice video experience -- albeit one that mixes free and premium content. It is very easy to navigate into basketball, and the content is very original.
The basketball section elevates specific areas to go deeper on the program.
Rebels in the Pros is a much deeper list than I'd have expected... it's just a little overwhelming in presentation. I'd love to see them go a little deeper into each of these stories. What is the takeaway you want a prospective athlete to get out of this?
I loved seeing Recruits elevated, but wasn't a huge fan of what it gets you. (see form here) We need to use this as a chance to sell Ole Miss Basketball!
Finally, Ole Miss offers the chance to download a collection of PDFs for their Media Guide. I like that they offer past years' guides here -- I just wish you could browse them online, or at least download them all at once.
Moving on, the bottom of the basketball page gives you access to the Ole Miss AD Pete Boone's Blog, here. I loved seeing this, as it is a nice way to have the AD reach out and be accessible to fans.
What the basketball section doesn't get to you is Assistant Coach Torrey Ward on Twitter. And that's a miss, as he's fantastic. Click in here and check it for yourself. He's only got 136 followers as of now but he shares enthusiasm on the program and basketball with style. I loved it. Here's a sample of his style:
"Gameday..again! ESPNU 7:30 cst vs a very good K-State team. Beauty of a tourney...quick turn against another good team. Another early test!"
Come back tomorrow as we keep moving.
Andy
