January in Review: The Coolest things in NBA Basketball

Here we go. It's time to pause and take a look at the coolest things to hit the Digital NBA Landscape over the past month... I hope you enjoy the ride!

ESPN will be streaming to your Xbox 360. Don't have a 360? I think it might be time. Here's a great read that says ESPN is close to allowing live streaming into your gaming console. So, yes, that means you could watch ESPN without a cable or a satellite TV subscription. I'm not ready to give up DirecTV just yet, but still this is a pretty monstrous thing. It means your gaming console is about to become a TV console. Full article here.

This month we saw two fantastic Vote for Amare videos, where Amare and David Spade partner to propel Amare Stoudemire's fans to vote him into the All-Star Game. This one is titled "Baby Powder"

And this one is a nice reminder there is no "I" in Amare.

I was hyped to hear that EA Sports is brining back NBA Jam for the Wii. Wow. If you don't remember this, NBA Jam was the ultimate 2-on-2 basketball game that was out in arcades in the early 1990s and literally rocked the culture. Check out this quote from ESPN from the game's creator, Mark Turmell:
"Jam was making so much money when it first came out. There was so much four-player action at this one arcade in Chicago that the first week they had to shut the arcade down, because there was a huge fight over whose turn it was to play..."
Can you imagine that? Fights over whose turn it was to play next? It's like this game had the power to turn us into toddlers again. Full read here and a cool picture to jog your memory below.

As you might be able to tell, this game is 2-on-2 only, with a guy on the bench. So there are 9 players on every NBA roster that don't make it to NBA Jam. How do you determine these rosters? Well EA Sports is allowing fans to vote for which players represent each team. The top 3 vote getters on each team will make it to NBA Jam. Vote by clicking here.

Meanwhile, NBA Live 10 takes a look at how Kevin Durant's game on the court is evolving (WOW) and what it means if you are gaming with him. (Hint: Both KDs are getting a lot better!!!) Link here.

"Kevin Durant is making good use of his jump shot and it has been serving him well up to this point in the NBA Season. His jumper has been his weapon of choice so far as 69% of his scoring has come from it. When you're scoring almost 33 points per game over the last 10 games it wouldn't make any sense for KD to change his approach. His 3 point shot has seen a lot of improvement as well as he was abysmal to begin the year but his percentage from long range has been steadily rising. He's been improving at a ridiculous rate..."
Isn't it amazing to think about the fact that we are at a point in time where performance on the court impacts performance in a video game... and you are just about able to watch both of these on your gaming console? Wow.

Come back tomorrow as I'll take you on a tour of the digital college basketball landscape!
