How the Southland Conference Leverages Hashtagging for Good

Twitter and hashtagging.

Enter our friends at the Southland Conference. Hit the Southland website and scroll down the page...

You'll start to see the beginnings of their Social Media box in the lower right-hand corner of the page, but for your attention, I'll zoom in on it below...

What I want to call your attention to is three things: The #NICH, the #UTA, and the @HoustonianSport. What's great about the style of messaging being leveraged by the SLC?
  1. They are creating a history of using hashtags for each school. Want to see a history of what the SLC has said about Nichols State? Click on that #NICH.
  2. They create opportunities for others to join them in chatting about each school. All you have to do is use the same #NICH and you can be a part of this conversation.
  3. They are reaching out to media to help get love for their programs, socially, in the @message delivered to the Houstonian.

How could this be better? How can we encourage the use of conversation around #NICH? (and the other programs, of course?) I'd love to see a contest, perhaps with rewards for the best responses using each hashtag? Fans use social media for information and fun, and it feels like this is an opportunity to deliver both, to each program in a unique way.

Want to check more of their style out? Check out the Southland Conference on Twitter, here.

Come back tomorrow as we continue our week long take at the best practices of the Southand Conference!

Don't forget, you can follow along on Facebook (here) or on Twitter: I'm@pawlow34.
